The Lechweg trail is a moderately difficult long-distance hiking trail and proceeds through our Alpine region; it is also one of the last wild river landscapes in Europe. An untamed Lech, people who have been shaped by their landscape and legendary stories are waiting for you!
The Lechweg brings together five regions and two countries over a good 125 kilometres: Austria, and Vorarlberg’s Arlberg area and Tirol’s natural park regions of Lechtal and Reutte, as well southern Allgäu in Germany. The Lech arises from its source close to Formarinsee in Vorarlberg and after an exciting and untamed course through wonderful regions, it leads to the Lechfall in Füssen in the Allgäu.
The numerous stages proceed past one of the biggest ibex colonies in Europe, to a waterfall, which dries up every year as if by magic and then re-emerges and also via the longest, freely accessible pedestrian bridge in Austria. Not forgetting the Bavarian Royal Castles at the end of the route!
Turquoise, crystal clear waters, ground down rocks and little wooden bridges are a real feast for the eyes.
Classic in seven, leisurely in eight, or taking these easy with ten days of hiking, the Lechweg can be experienced in ways that suit your own fitness.
Enjoy the first impressions of the various stages and route points in this virtual tour.
