The two Walser villages of Warth and Schröcken sit at around 1,500 metres in a prime location within the Ski Arlberg area. Here at the Hochtannberg Pass, snow falls in abundance, ensuring the finest skiing right into April. Because when elsewhere people are already packing away their skis, Ski Arlberg still brings a sparkle to the eyes of passionate winter sports enthusiasts. While spring flowers are sprouting down in the valley, spring skiing up on the mountain provides splashes of colour of a different kind. There, the red umbrellas of the ski bars are “in bloom.” Further along, the yellow deckchairs on the sun terrace shine brightly. And just around the corner, the red-and-white striped beach chairs gleam in the snow.

In March – and especially in early April – the sun warms not only the spring snow but also skiers’ hearts. When temperatures rise above freezing, the many mountain huts and restaurants high above Warth-Schröcken invite you to sunbathe without down jackets or mittens, instead enjoying deckchairs and sunscreen. The logical order on the Arlberg? Morning on the spring snow, early afternoon carving on the north-facing slopes, and then winding down the ski day on one of the numerous sun terraces.

Soft spring snow or powdery slopes? Why not both! In April, open south-facing slopes offer a special skiing experience: spring snow skiing. The snow crystals melt slightly on the surface, forming soft snow that epitomises leisurely, enjoyable skiing. For those who prefer carving turns over firm slopes even at the end of the season, the north-facing slopes are perfect. Up here, between the Allgäu Alps and the Verwall Group, snow lasts longer thanks to the unique topography.

Ever hunted for Easter eggs in the snow? For those who prefer a few ski runs at Easter instead of muddy walks, Warth-Schröcken is the place to be. Until April, the irresistible mix of spring snow and powder awaits, and even the Easter Bunny rides through the ski area, handing out chocolate eggs to skiers of all ages.

In March and April, not only the pleasant temperatures and long hours of sunshine bring good vibes: the Ski & Concert series at Steffisalp provides après-ski with style. And not with canned beats, but with live music full of energy and atmosphere.
