Mountain tour to the best coffee in the world?

A sunrise tour to the Widderstein in Warth-Schröcken is a special kind of alpine hiking experience.
And the coffee here tastes unforgettably good!

The Widderstein

The Widderstein high above Warth-Schröcken is an imposing, 2,530 metre high phenomenon. A free-standing rocky peak with an unobstructed view in all directions - from Lake Constance to Kleinwalsertal, the Lechtal Alps and the main Alpine ridge. It is not without reason that it is a popular destination for alpine hikers and can be easily reached in a day trip.

Its ascent in the early hours of the morning is unique: Those who make it to the summit at sunrise will probably never forget this hike.

With a soft click, it gets light. The cone of light from the headlamp dances across the ground. It's still dark, but you can already tell that the day is not far off. We are standing at the Widdersteinhütte at an altitude of 2,000 metres. It's fresh in the morning. The hiking trail winds its way gently uphill across the meadow in front of us. Just right to slowly get going this early in the morning. Our plan: We want to be on the Widderstein summit just Our little group of three marches along in silence. Everyone is lost in thought. Can we make it? Are we early enough? We have calculated a good 1.5 hours for the ascent from the hut to the summit. Yesterday evening, we had already managed the 40-minute ascent from the Hochtannberg Pass to the hut, enjoyed a cosy snack on the terrace and then spent the night.
An app calculated the exact time of sunrise at the summit. Now we still have 500 metres of altitude ahead of us. There's not much time for breaks. The rocky contours of the mighty mountain slowly emerge at dawn. It's hard to imagine getting up through the rugged terrain without climbing equipment. But that's exactly why we had decided on this alpine hike. And indeed: the path continues to climb upwards on easy terrain.

There is also time for a photo on the descent: the small rock balcony offers a spectacular perspective.

We soon find ourselves in rocky terrain and it becomes steeper and more challenging. It's actually wonderful, because you realise how quickly you gain height and after a short time you are high above the valley. If you turn round briefly, spectacular views open up. But now time is pressing.

The last few metres to the summit are exactly as we imagined: The effort, the sweat on our foreheads, the heavy legs - the view. And now we are rewarded by the first warming rays of sunshine on our faces. We've done it! We've reached the summit. Alone. No one else is up here this early.
Complete silence to wake up the day - time for a fresh espresso.

We savour the moment, the view, the shared experience and the friendship that becomes even closer on a day like this. One by one, more hikers arrive at the summit and it's time for us to leave. We enjoy the descent in peace and quiet and agree without many words: we will certainly never forget this coffee.
